Parent Workshop

Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program|Online Parent Series

Have you ever wished that your child is independent, curious, positive and courageous?
Post COVID, have you thought about how to prepare your child for a drastically different future?
Do you know that Montessori education isn’t synonymous with kindergarten and can be applied to middle and high school?
Do you have an adolescent, who is just about to enter puberty? Are you prepared for the “adolescent storm and stress”?

Over the past few years, Y2 Foundation for Future Education has steadily marched the path of advocacy and practice of Montessori pedagogy.  And now, we are ready to unveil the “Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program”!

“Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program” will begin in the 2022 school year, admitting incoming 7th graders to become our co-learning and co-growing partners.

Jan Gaffney, Director of Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program

Director of this Program, Jan Gaffney, has over 30 years of Montessori teaching and training experience. Originally from New Zealand, Jan has been the head of Montessori schools in New Zealand and Bali, Indonesia. She is relocating to Taiwan in 2022 to facilitate the development of Montessori adolescent middle & high school education in Taiwan.

We are excited to announce two FREE Parent Workshops led by Jan on Saturday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 18.  Chinese translation will be provided.  Registration is REQUIRED.

Due to the limited spaces, it will be open to parents of 6th graders with priority from now on.

Workshop introduction

 Workshop 1 《Transformation: From Childhood to Adolescence》

  • Time: Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, 2:00-4:00PM

  • Content:
What’s the “storm and stress” all about? Hear Dr. Montessori’s take. This interactive workshop will help you express your deepest hopes for your child and understand how “self-expression” curriculum helps ease the body and mind of the adolescent.

Workshop 2 《The Prepared Environment & Adolescent Curriculum Explained》

  • Time: Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, 2:00-4:00PM

  • Content:
An environment in nature and close-knit community are the adolescent’s basic human needs. A prepared environment helps the young adult comprehend practical workings of the real world. In addition to building self-awareness, such an environment allows adolescents to discover how they can contribute to improving others’ lives. Join us, as we take a peek into the Montessori adolescent curriculum - preparing the child for being him or herself.

A post-workshop in depth and in-person Q&A session will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022. Come meet the Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program team members and get your burning questions answered! Details of Y2 Montessori Adolescent Program’s vision, faculty, environment, and curriculum design will be revealed!

This Q&A session is only open to parents of 6th graders, who have attended BOTH previous workshops. The location is tentatively set in Taipei. If you would like to join but have a schedule conflict, please register in the link below, leave your contact information, and we will be in touch.

Note

  • There are two separate workshops in this FREE parent series. The format will be online via Google Meets. Space is limited, register now!

  • In the event of pandemic or other special circumstances, Y2 reserves the right to change the in-person Q&A session to online format.

  • Y2 reserves the right to modify, terminate, or change the event details.

Y2 MONTESSORI ADOLESCENT PROGRAM

Why

The adolescent is like a “ social newborn.” Their development will be followed and guided toward self-awareness, social cohesion, and readiness to enter the world as a prepared adult.

What
A community that betters, lives, and learns together, with the land, microeconomy, mixed-age learning, and independence as its essence.

When
2021 - assemble faculty team & complete middle school curriculum design

Sept, 2022 - formally invite 7th graders to join the Program

How
To re-define “place for learning” by building a cohort that’s integrated with the community and that’s co-shared by both faculty and students. Here, the adolescent’s wisdom and courage to forge on life’s adventures will be expanded.

Where
Our location is underway. More information will be provided at the January, 2022 Q&A session.
